The building of the Teatro alla Scala, realized by Piermarini, was to want of the empress Maria Teresa d'Austria.
The new theatre has had replaced the Teatro Regio Ducale, destroyed from a fire february 26th 1776.
The Theatre was inaugurated august 3rd 1778.
