Masters of wood Sculpture
October 21 2005 - The Castello Sforzesco of Milan will entertain about 80 wooden sculptures of the lomabrd Renaissance. |

Before of the Council of Trento, the majority of the churches in Lombardy had a wooden scultpure of an some importance but with the application of the decrees of the Council, majority of the works was replaced with altars and sculptures in marble and bronze. In spite of those losses the patrimony of wooden works of the lombard patrimony is substantial.
The exhibition Masters of the Sculpture in wood in the dukedom of the sforza, in program in the Viscount Rooms of the Castello Sforzesco from october 21 2005 at january 29 2006, collects for the first time about 80 between the most important works of the wooden sculpture realized in Lombardy between '400 and '500.
Thanks at the loans of the major international museums, of the most prestigious public and private collections and of the buildings of cult, the exhibition represents a revalutation of the sculpture in wood, that characterizes the artistic renaissance production of the Lomabrdy, which boundaries were extended from the western Piedmont until northern Emilia and where the city of Milan, seat of the dukedom of the Sforza, was centre of considerable cultural and artistic symptoms.
It is not minor sculpture, but an specific and appreciated ambit for the ability to involve the believers and communicate with immediacy the message. The wood shone of gold and colours, often realized from the most famous painters of the epoch, between that Foppa, Luini, Gaudenzio Ferrari, and also Leonardo.
The expositive route will be articulated in four sections centred about the big realizations of the major artists of the epoch, between that De Donati and Del Maino.
Around the exhibition a wide program of cultural and didactic initiatives (guided visits, laboratories, concerts of classic music) will carry the Castello Sforzesco at the centre of the cultural milanese outline.
