The work, that Jacopo della Quercia sculpted between 1409 and 1419, is considered between the bigger expressions of the italian sculpture of the '400.
The font present today is the copy of Titp Sarrocchi that from 1844 replaces the original which remains are indoors of the Santa Maria della Scala Museum.
