Situated to the boundary between Italy and the Slovenia, to the mouth of the Isonzo in the friulana plain, Gorizia is dominated from the Monte Sabatino, from the Monte Santo and from relief where rises the Castle with venezian fortification of 1500, considered symbol of the town. Comung down from the Castle towards the ancient borgo of the town, meets the Church of Santo Spirito, raised around to 1400, the Museum of Story and Art of Borgo Castello, The Palace Attems Petzenstein, and the Cathedral, destroyed in the war of 1915-1918 and then rebuilded maintaining the more possible the original shape. Palaces worthy of respect are the Palace Arcivescovile, Palace of the Prefecture, Palace Werdenberg and Palace Rabatta. As for the cusine the typical dishes are the soups of barley and bean, the gnocchi of potatoes with dry plums and the spring risotto with vegetables. |
