Isernia is the cheftown of province of the Molise and seat vescovile, the etimology of its name supplies a description of sacralità Aiser that in samnite means God. Its city structure reflects a lot the ancient roman mark. In the heart of the town we find Piazza Celestino V that welcomes the Fraterna fountain of XIV century. To visit there is the Cathedral, rebuilded in 1837, the church of San Francesco, the restive of the romanic church Santa Maria Assunta, called also Santa Maria of Monache because belonging to a monastery of benedettine. The province offers all the traditional regional cusine like the laganelle and bean (small lasagne made to handserved in soup with bean, fragrant grasses varieties and paprika), the baccalà, the mush with sausages to the pig with peppers to the vinegar; abound the preparations of lamb and kid, among which the roasted turcinelli. The wine DOC is the Pentro of Isernia (white, red, rosy and red reserve). |
