Basilica Cattedrale di Oria

It is dedicated to Maria Santissima Assunta in Cielo. After the earthquake of february 20 1743, the original roman facade of the cathedral, considered precarious, was knocked down by Bishop of Oria in 1750. From the architectural point of view is observed the temple at latin cross, with three naves in baroque style. At the outside the Belfry and the Cupola are sole for the shell of polychrome tiles. The cathedral was raised as Minor Basilica in 1992 to want of Pope Giovanni Paolo II. Between the inside works cite the "Mummys Crypt", where are reserved the mummified stiffs of brothers of various periods.
