"La Vela" the wetland is placed in province of Taranto. From 1993 the wetland is WWF shelter, that care of it the administration and the ambient conservation. The wetland is a marshy saltish area placed at 7-8 km from Taranto. The protected zone has an extension of 9-10 hectars, this includes an marshy area and a pine-wood formed from Pino d'Aleppo (Pinus halepensis). This last, called "Furcino" pine-wood, was planted from englishmen (for militar reasons) in the '60 years. Today, this casket of natural wonders, is a WWF shelter. There are 2 sheds for the observation of the avifauna. The number is of Mister Gaetano Barbato, it is possible to book daily visits.
