The castle was wanted in 1104 from the Doge Falier. In the centuries, thanks to its importance was extended and modernized, above all in 1866, year wherein Venice was included in the Kingdom of Italy. During the First World War the arsenal represented a big point of reference in the organization of the defence. By the arsenal actually there is the Naval Historic Museum of Venice.
