Risen on a aboriginal core of the town, was the ancient Cathedral of Ferrara, seat of the bishop's palace from the VIII century at the 1135 when was inaugurated the current Cathedral. Rebuilt on project of Biagio Rossetti from the 1473 that raised also the bell-tower, its aspect is again changed with the earthquake of the 1570 and various war episodes. It presents a facade in baroque style for the eighteenth-century remake of Andrea Ferreri. Indoors, seventeenth-century frescos of Francesco Ferrari; after the left nave there is the chapel of San Maurelio, with the tomb of the martyr bishop elected patron of Ferrara with San Giorgio; is preserved also the tomb of Cosmè Tura, ferrarese painter.
