Defensive fortress, ducal palace, barracks and, finally today seat of museums and cultural institutions, Castello Sforzesco is one of the more interesting monuments of Milan. With its 200 metres of side, the three courts, the merlates, the nethers and the works that includes, the strong castle is source of costant surprises. The building was ended in 1368, after 10 years of works, but after the fall of the Sforza, was destroyed.
It was rebuilt by Francesco Sforza and elected as home, as well as seat of the dukedom, from the son Galeazzo Maria that besides did embellish it with more works of art, enlarged the garden and realized architectural alterations. It was perfect until 1733, when French and Savoia destroyed it. In 1839, the architect Luca Beltrami, after studies and documented rebuildings gave back to it the fifteenth-century look that today we can admire still.
