It was built between 1798 and 1801. The first project was of Gianantonio Selva, acclaimed architect of the Fenice of Venice, and was then revised by Matteo Pertsch. The sculptural group on the top of the building represents Apollo at the centre between the allegorical figures of Lyric Art and of Tragic Art.
