Monza under the Longobard

The arrival of Longobard in the territory of Monza (568) corresponds at a period of great splendour. Autari, and above all his wife, the queen Teodolinda, render Monza a political, cultural and religious centre of principal importance. The second husband of the queen, Agilulfo, is converted from her at the christianity thanks at the influence of Gregorio Magno. Teodolinda was raised in 595 the Basilica of San Giovanni Battista, now Cathedral, where in 603 happened the baptism of the son Adaloaldo and where it is preserved his crypt and other precious treasuries, between that the famous Corona Ferrea. The queen of Longobard was very loved from monzesi and remembered still now with devotion for her munificence and goodness. She died in 625.
