The Cathedral was famous to have accomodated some solemn sessions of the Council of Trrento (1545-1563). It was erected from comancini architects from the 1200 to want of the potent Bishop Federico Vanga and was ended only at the beginnings of the 1800. Between the numerous works we remember the venerated wooden statue of the Madonna Addolorata, a series of clothes and the romanesque sculpture called 'Madonna degli annegati' at whose foots were placed the bodies of the people that found the death in the waters of the Adige. Recent excavations carried at the light, under the larger altar, a Paleochristian Basilica of the VI century. The larger altar, threatened from a baroque canopy erected at half of the '700, reserves the urn with the relics of San Vigilio.
