The work, inaugurated in 1933, is 53 metres high, has at the base a crypt deep 27 metres.
On the walls are engraved the names of the sailors fell in the Big War and in the 2^ World War. On the square of the monument are visited the anchors of the austro-ungariche armour-plateds "Tegethoff" and "Viribus Unitis", sank from the italians in 1918.
