The castle was born on the footing of the sepulchre wanted from the emperor Adriano in 130 a.D.
On the castle keeps the statue of the Archangel Michele, that give the name to the castle.
The statue is connected at a kegend of the 590 a.D.
Seems in fact that Pope Gregorio Magno in period of plague, saw during a procession on the top of the castle an angel reline the sword: was the notice for the end of the pestilence.
