Ancient village surrounded from wall of defence at about 4 km from Pesaro, in overpowering position on the top of an hill that part the valley of Foglia from that of Metauro.
It was built in substitution of an ancientest castle, rises more to east likely around 1000: perhaps because by now overmuch old and small, perhaps because demolished and falling for the continues wars, the castle of Novilara was droped at the first of 1300 and rebuilt more to west, on the hill where it is now.
