CAMPO STAFFI Campo Staffi is one of the most modern ski resorts of Latium. The ski equipments, including 2 chair-lifts, one of which threechaired, and 8 ski-lifts, have a total transport capacity of 8,000 people per hour. The ski slopes lie between 2,000 and 1,500 m of altitude and have a variable degree of difficulty to needs of any skier. This is a well-known ski resort, visited by many ski-lovers and tourists, within the county of Filettino, at the border with Latium and Abruzzi on the Simbruini Mounts, between Mount Livata and Campo Catino. The ski-lifts are on the north-eastern slopes of Mount Cotento.
CAMPO CATINO The valley of Campo Catino lies at an altitude of 1,800 m, across the Ernici Mounts and the Cantari Mounts. A scenic road leads to it from Guarcino. The quite high altitude allows good snow conditions from December to April. The ski-lifts serve all the slopes of the valley and includes 5 ski-lifts with a total transport capacity of some 5,000 people per hour. There are some 12 km of ski slopes with a varying degree of difficulty and able to meet the needs of both the beginners and the most skilled skiers. The habitat of Campo Catino is that typical of a middle mountain place with woods, meadows and a lot of snow. Extremely interesting are the excursion itineraries, two of which take to La Monna and the Crepacuore.
FORCA D'ACERO The gorge of Forca d'Acero rises on the eastern slope of the Comino Valley, at the foot of the Abruzzi and Molise Appennines, as high as 800 m. Vegetation is typical of this altitude with lush beech woods, wich are among the most beautiful of this district. In the zones, where the human presence is rare, the unlit underwood allows the growth of vegetation typical of mountain tops, such as the common dwarf juniper. Beech woods are followed by stretches of mountaintop grassland, usually used for pasture. In the sky over Forca d'Acero it is possible to spot some rare examples of golden eagle, but its presence here is hampered by the practice of several sporting activities, such as gliding and hanggliding, which find here a suitable environment.
PRATI DI MEZZO Within the county of Picinisco lies Prati di Mezzo, a ski resort set against a breath-taking landscape.
