The Castle of the Emperor, called also Swabian Castle, was built in 1248 for will of the Emperor Federico II of Svevia.
Its particularity is that it is the sole example of swebian manor-house of the centre-north Italy. The cstle was erected for work of the architect Riccardo da Lentini, on the territory that accomodeted a minor fortification. and this has prejudiced the geometric result of the streìtch of level ground, not perfect like in the other swebian castles. The principal entrance is embellished with decorative elements obtained witht the alternation of bands of white and green marble; the inside is in practice empty, without nothing tracks of the, incomplete, original structures. Across an opening on the oriental part it was possible approach at the raised communication trench (the Cassero) until arrive at the Florentine door. From October at March the Castle if open only in the morning.
