The monumental fountain in mannerist style was projected in the 1554 from the florentine Camillo Camilliani for the florentine villa of Don Pietro of Toledo, then acquired from the common of Palermo and placed in the neighbourhood of the palace of the Aquile. Beyond at the artistic value, the fountain has a symbology meaning: there is in the centre of gravety of Palermo, at the same distance from the Felice Gate and from the Nuove Gate, so like from the two castles. The fountain is of circula plan and decorated with statues of mythological inspiration, while the railing that surrounds it was introduced in the 1858 and designed by Giovan Battista Basile.
