The construction of the walls, in blocks of travertin at dry, was between the VI and the III century B.C. The perimeter reachs the 3 km and long parts are still now quite preserved, specially on the west and north slopes. The city-wall was in plan at shape of clover and had at least 7 doors of access, of which 6 are still existing and recognizable in their etruscan structure in spite of the numerous modificatons at work of the Roman. Towards west are open the Arch of the Mandorla (San Giacomo road)and Trasimena Gate (Priori road); towards north the Etrusco Arch whosw engraving remembers the reconciliation between Ottaviano Augusto and Marco Antonio; at north-east the Arch of the Gigli (Bontempi road) and the Arch of Sant'Ercolano; at south there is instead the Marzia gate, set in the bastion of the Paolina Fortress to decorate it the entrance.
