Only a few kilometres from the town there is the pretty lake of Canterno and the green fields of the Altipiani di Arcinazzo. Mountain lovers too, without going very far, can enjoy the charming views of Campo Catino and Campo Staffi. Ciociara, has always not only valued, but also defended and conserved, its immense natural wealth. Also worth a visit are the Pozzo d'Antullo on the outskirts of Collepardo, the Isola Liri waterfall and the canyon carved out by the Cosa river near the Carthusian Monastery of Trisulti. A last wonder, which must absolutely not be missed, is the mysterious underground world of the caves known as the Grotte di Pastena: over 3.000 metres of stalactites and stalagmites that constitute one of the most interesting speleological areas in Italy.
A walk in the woods Immersed in woods of chestnut trees and oaks, suroounded by the Ernici and Lepini mountains, Fiuggi is an ideal centre for beautiful and interesting excursions. For example to the lake of Canterno, just outside the town, which is reached by travelling along the road that starts the at the Fonte Bonifacio and passes near the Sanctuary of the Madonna della Stella (Our Lady of the Star). After the tour of the lake it is pleasant to make a stop at one of the many small restaurants on its banks. Starting from Porciano you soon reach the charming ruins of Old Porciano, a mediaeval village abandoned in the 18th century, situated among the woods on the slopes of the mountainof the same name. Continuing past the ruined castle you go up to the top from which there is a magnificent view of the Sacco valley. If you like you can go further, on foot along a mule trail, to Anagni which is one of the most interesting mediaeval centres in Ciociaria. Another easy path is along a wide dirt road from Fiuggi to Torre Cajetani, a little village around the castle that once belonged to Boniface VIII. A slightly steep, but easy, climb up Monte Civitella completes the excursion with a beautiful view.
