Fonte Bonifacio VIII was built at the beginning of this century in an elegant Art Nouveau style of which the only part remaining today is the charming entrance. In fact, the internal structure was completely restructured during the sixties into open and closed spaces in which daring architectural elements in cement contrast with the luxuriant vegetation. Fonte Bonifacio VIII is the place for taking the real cure, drinking the water fasting in the morning. Hundreds of drinking fountains are scattered throughout vast green areas nad covered spaces and as many as 25.000 persons can use them at the same time. The imposing central hall is heated and it is thus possible to take the cure during the winter months also. But this is not just a place for taking the cure. Side by with the drinking fountains and doctor's consulting rooms is a series of structures designed to make the guests' stay more pleasant: bars, cafés, with music, multipurpose rooms. Fonte Anticolana, also known as the “new spring” because it was inaugurated during the twenties, is one where most people go in the afternoon. Situated in a charming position, although it offers guests fewer drinking fountains there are beautiful walks in the gardens and along the tree-lined paths of its large, well-equipped grounds. In the mids of silvery cedars, sequoias and flowers of every kind there are tennis and bowling courts, minigolf and table tennis, a children's playground and a games room. Here, also, is the Teatro delle Fonti (Theatre of the Springs), a stage where important musical entertainment and prestigious cultural events are staged every year.
